How To Help Your Dog Enjoy Baths
I don’t mean to brag, but I have known quite a few dogs in my lifetime. Out of all these furry friends, only one – a very good boy named Jethro – loves baths. In my experience, most canine companions act as though you heartlessly destroyed their favorite toy the moment you place them in a bathtub.
Thankfully, there are some ways to help your furry friend have a more enjoyable time as they are getting scrubbed down.
Have All Your Supplies Ready
Before bringing your pooch into the bath, be sure to have all your supplies ready. You’ll need pet shampoo, conditioner, and one or two towels.
Brush Before Bathing
Dogs will get agitated if you pull on their tangled fur while bathing them. To prevent this, brush out their coat before washing it.
Tire Your Pup Out
If your pup tends to thrash while getting bathed, consider taking them on a long walk or having a vigorous game of fetch before it's time for them to get lathered up. This way, they'll be too tuckered out to knock down all your shampoo bottles and jump out of the tub.
Get Them Used To Water
Some canine companions do not like the feeling of water on their fur. To help them get used to the sensation, regularly get their paws wet.
Give Your Dog A Treat
Dogs are food motivated, much like myself. For this reason, they’ll probably be more behaved if you bribe them with some tasty treats during bath time.
Bathe Your Canine Companion Outside
If your pup hates being in your bathtub, consider bathing them outside, if the weather permits.
Make Sure The Water Is Pleasant
Before washing your pup make sure that the water is at the appropriate temperature, which is “between 90 and 98 degrees Fahrenheit,” per All Pet Voices.
