Here's How To Borrow A Dog During Your Hawaiian Vacation

If you're planning a trip to Hawaii, consider visiting Kauai! For one, the island is home to gorgeous white sand beaches, breathtaking sights, and delicious food. The Kauai Humane Society also offers an incredible opportunity for locals and tourists alike that will make your vacation unforgettable.

Since 2010, the rescue center, located in Lihue, HI, has been known for its Field Trip program. These field trips allow dog lovers to explore the island with an adoptable dog from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those who wish to do so must schedule an online appointment, donate $40, and fill out a liability form. Once at KHS, volunteers can pick out their adventure partner and receive a fabulous Field Trip backpack, which includes water bowls, towels, and waste bags.

If you are unfamiliar with the island, the staff will suggest where to go with the dog. Popular spots that Spot is sure to love include Kalapaki Beach, Kukuiolono Golf Course Path, and Kapaa Coastal Path. It is important to note that furry friends must always be leashed, no matter how many times Fido insists he is trustworthy.

Participants will be charged $100 if the pup is returned after 5 p.m. If you are already a pup parent, you’ll have to leave your canine companion home, as the rescue doesn’t want its dogs to interact with other canines.

Now, you may be concerned that you will get your heart broken. After all, you may fall in love with your furry friend while you explore gorgeous sights. Thankfully, visiting volunteers can adopt their adventure partners, even if they live on the mainland.

Here at Woof Republic, we think this program is incredible and hope more rescues follow suit!
