Chris Evans Reveals How His Beloved Rescue Dog Dodger Is Adjusting to Life as a Big Brother

If you’re a fan of actor Chris Evans, you know that he’s a devoted dog dad to his beloved rescue pup, Dodger. In a recent interview with The Dodo, he revealed how his furry friend is adapting to the role of big brother to his 10-month-old daughter, Alma Grace, whom he shares with his wife, Alba Baptista.

“He's been incredible. He's so loving. He's so protective. He'll sleep outside her room when she's napping,” gushed Evans. 

The Avengers actor then explained that his canine companion, who is now about 11 years old, “has a great instinct for, you know, young things, whether it's a person or a puppy.”

“He's very gentle. My sister's kids, back when I first brought him home over 10 years ago, my sister's kids were much younger, and he was so, you know, tug-of-war with me is a battle. Tug-of-war with my niece, he just he knew how to turn the volume down. It was really sweet. And he's done that with my daughter, and it warms the heart,” continued the actor.

As Evans mentioned in the Dodo interview, Dodger has been by his side for nearly a decade.

While speaking to Us Weekly in August 2024, Evans noted he adopted Dodger during the production of the 2017 film Gifted. The furry friend was tasked to play a shelter dog. Evans soon realized that Dodger was actually in need of a home and immediately took him in. 

“There was no plan to get a dog that day, and I was just walking up and down the rows of dogs. And saw Dodger. And it just clicked,” said Evans to Us Weekly. 

Evans also shared that his furry friend still had “a lot of energy.” 

“He hasn’t changed from the second I saw him. He’s still a puppy. He’s still got a lot of love,” said Evans during the Us Weekly interview. 

Evans also shared that his furry friend has helped him “stay present.” 

“All Dodger thinks about is right now. And what a beautiful way to exist,” said Evans.
