Chris Evans Is Thinking About Giving His Beloved Dog, Dodger, a Sibling

It may be safe to say that Chris Evans is one of the biggest dog lovers in Hollywood. If you are a fan of the “Deadpool & Wolverine” actor, you are well aware he adores his rescue pup, Dodger.

During an August 2024 interview with People magazine, Evans shared that he and his wife, Alba Baptista, have had discussions about potentially getting a new furry friend. He also shared that he and Baptista haven’t decided whether they would like to adopt a puppy or “adopt an older dog.” The actor suggested he was thinking of doing the latter.

"Anytime you see one of those stories about some eight or nine-year-old dog that gets adopted who's had a rough life, it just kills you. And so, to some degree, that's kind of what we've been thinking,” said Evans.

The Marvel star also explained that he and his wife are not in a rush to get another dog.

"We both need a little bit of downtime for that. We've always said, 'Well, maybe we'll just go down to the shelter,' and I'm like, 'Listen, do you really think we're going to walk down there and not leave with at least one dog?' There's no way. So if we make the decision to actually walk in the door, we're walking out with one,” said Evans.

Evans first laid eyes on Dodger during the production of the 2017 film “Gifted,” where the pup had been brought in to play a shelter dog. Chris soon realized that Dodger was actually in need of a home and immediately took him in.

In an October 2020 interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the actor acknowledged that he has his furry friend’s name tattooed on his chest and said his love for Dodger is “the purest relationship” he has. Evans also shared that his canine companion was named after the beloved Disney character, Dodger, from the 1988 movie “Oliver & Company.”

“When I first saw him in the shelter I was like, Dodger from ‘Oliver & Company.’ And then after I took him home with me, I went through the process of trying to think of other names and I just couldn’t get off Dodger and I thought, ‘Well, I’m not going to over think this one,’” said Evans.

During a June 2022 interview with Buzzfeed, the “Captain America” star gleefully played with puppies, adult dogs, and senior canines. While the actor clearly enjoyed sitting on the floor petting young pups, he explained why he decided to adopt an adult dog. He explained that Dodger was two years old when he rescued him.

“I always thought when I adopted a dog or rescued a dog, it would be a little puppy, and Dodger was a fully grown dog and it wasn’t the story I had in my mind but it ended up being the best decision of my life,” said the “Knives Out” actor.

He then shared that he believed “a lot of adult dogs and older dogs are overlooked.”

“And that’s a shame, so let’s give them a chance too,” said Evans to Buzzfeed.

The actor also revealed that he has a particular soft spot for senior dogs who are looking for their forever homes.

“They have such a connection to whoever they’ve been around for a while and it makes an older dog’s love so special, you gotta earn it. No disrespect to the puppies, but you know, these guys have probably seen some things and as a result, they’re a little wary. That’s why it takes time and I really respect that,” said Evans

Here at Woof Republic, we appreciate how much Evans adores his furry friend! We also hope his fans will follow his lead and adopt older pups in need.
