Can Dogs Eat Persimmons?

There’s something about the winter months that makes me want to demolish a box of persimmons. Recently, while I had persimmon juice dripping down my face, my dog looked up at me hopefully. I knew she was trying to convey that she would like to try my persimmon with her giant puppy dog eyes.

Before I handed her a piece, I checked to make sure dogs can safely consume the fruit.

According to Modern Vet, you can give your dog a small piece of persimmon, as long as it is peeled. In addition, you need to remove the seed, as it is a major choking hazard.

Please talk to your vet before adding anything new — like persimmons — to your dog’s diet!
