The 5 Best Dog Parks In Minnesota

Minnesota is an incredible city that has gifted us with such greatness as the Minnesota State Fair, the Mall of America, and of course, Prince. That being said, the Land of 10,000 Lakes does not nearly get enough credit for its overwhelming love of dogs. The thriving city has numerous dog-friendly establishments, including a multitude of amazing parks. Here are the 5 best dog parks in Minnesota that are an absolute must for locals and visitors to stop by with Spot.

Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park

The Minnehaha off-leash dog park is the perfect place to explore with your pooch during the warmer months. Visitors, of the human and canine variety, can hike scenic trails and take a stroll along the Mississippi shore. There's a good chance Fido will come home wanting a long nap after his incredible adventure at the park. The Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park is only accessible to those who have a permit, that will cost residents $35 per year. While on the pricier side, the permit may be an excellent gift for your dog’s next birthday.

Lake of the Isles Dog Park

The Lake of Isles Dog Park is a well maintenanced, fenced-in space where pups can party. The park has been split into two separate areas, one for larger pooches and the other for small dogs. A day pass to this dog park is $5. Nearby, is the gorgeous Lake of the Isles, where puppers can saunter along the walking path, as long as they are on a leash. If you decide you want to go on a slightly longer walk, you can stop by the popular-dog friendly bookstore Birchbark Books & Native Arts, on West 21 St.

Meeker Island Dog Park

Meeker Island Dog Park is almost quite literally a hidden gem, as it can be a little bit difficult to get to. That being said, any pup who has been to this incredible dog park can attest that it is well worth the tricky trek down the Mississippi River Blvd trail. Your furry friend is sure to have the time of her life playing fetch on the Mississippi River’s shoreline.  If your pooch isn’t the best swimmer, however, it’s in everyone’s best interest to keep her on a leash.

Loring Dog Park

The quaint Loring Dog Park, found on Harmon Pl, has plenty of space for dogs to play. The lush landscape is absolutely stunning with its limestone boulders and numerous oak trees. In addition, there is an impressive art installation, consisting of an adorable seven-dog totem. For those who are into local beers, it’s worth mentioning that the park is within walking distance of Modist Brewing Co. After you spend the afternoon throwing around a tennis ball at Loring Dog Park, you can enjoy a Double Vanilla Milkshake Double IPA or a Cold Press Coffee Lager at the hip establishment with your pooch by your side.

Arlington/Arkwright Off Leash Dog Park

The Arlington/Arkwright dog park consists of 5 acres where puppers can frolick, freed from the confines of their leash. The open, tree-lined space has plenty of picnic tables for owners to relax while their pups play. Food, however, is strictly prohibited as there is concern that dogs could possibly get aggressive. I mean, I totally get it. If someone wasn’t sharing their tasty treat with me, I’d also be a little testy. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.
