As 'Hacks' Says Goodbye, Meet the Cast’s Adorable Dogs

My dog and I absolutely adore the HBO comedy Hacks. Not only does it have plenty of laughs and surprisingly sweet moments, but Ava (Hannah Einbinder) and Deborah’s (Jean Smart) dynamic is also pretty similar to ours. Obviously, my dog is the Deborah because she’s the boss and withholds her affection.

Anyway, in celebration (and mourning) of the show’s series finale, we thought we’d spotlight the biggest dog lovers on the Hacks cast. Without further ado, here are the stars of Hacks and their adorable canine companions. 

Jean Smart 

Jean Smart owns a precious pup that apparently struggles with a little bit of naughtiness. In a 2022 Instagram post, Smart described her furry friend as her “sweet disobedient dog.” 

While she didn’t specify what makes her furry friend disobedient, she mentioned the dog’s love of eating inedible items in a 2025 interview, alongside Hannah Einbinder. During the interview, Smart revealed that the “Last thing [she] bought online … was an instructable dog toy.” She then explained that she has “dog that will eat anything.”

Megan Stalter

Megan Stalter, who is a total scene-stealer as Kayla, is obsessed with furry friends. In a 2025 interview with Architectural Digest, Stalter shared that she adopted her rescue dog after losing her beloved canine companion. 

Kaitlin Olson

Kaitlin Olson, who plays Deborah’s daughter, is a proud pup parent! While speaking to People magazine in 2021, Olson shared that she’s been a long-time animal lover. 

“I was one of those kids that always really connected with animals and liked them more than I really liked people," said the actress to People. "I just remember driving in the car with my family and seeing some dead animal on the side of the road and just sobbing. I could not take it. I still don't love it. But I mean, as an adult, I'm like, 'Yeah, that happens.' I remember it just absolutely destroyed me as a child. And both of my kids are the same way."
