A Look At Wags And Walks Rescue
Wags and Walks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded by Lesley Brog, determined to help dogs in need. While Wags and Walks assists dogs of all breeds, the nonprofit has taken a particular interest in pups less likely to be adopted, like pit bulls. According to the company’s website, Brog established Wags and Walks because she wanted to stop the euthanasia of dogs that occur in shelters because of a lack of resources and space.
While speaking to DogTime, Brog shared she was also inspired by her two daughters to start helping pups in need.
“I’m proud to teach my girls compassion and kindness to animals first hand,” said the former pharmaceutical salesperson.
During a June 2021 interview with VoyageLA, Brog shared that the nonprofit “specialize[s] in saving family-friendly dogs from high kill shelters and placing them in loving homes” with the help of “thousands of volunteers.”
“Wags & Walks was founded with the goal of breaking the stigma that rescue dogs are damaged goods and to help decrease the number of dogs euthanized in local shelters by showing people that you can find wonderful dogs of all breeds and sizes through rescue,” shared Brog.
She also noted that the nonprofit puts on educational sessions to help normalize adoptions.
“Our center hosts community and education events, often geared at children and families,” shared the dog lover.
She went on to say that the nonprofit has rescued thousands of furry friends. She told the publication:
To date, Wags and Walks have saved over 7000 family-friendly dogs from high-kill shelters and have found loving homes for all of them. I am inspired by the dog-loving community that enables us to continue our mission via volunteering, adopting, sharing, and donating. What sets us apart is our ability to focus on the overall goal, dogs are in shelters and euthanized due to overcrowding. We strive to ensure anyone who wants to be a part of our community feels welcome and sees everyone that joins our team as a bigger opportunity to save more dogs. Wags and Walks saves friendly dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds and we are accepting of all people who want to join our Wags family in accomplishing this goal.
