Help Merryweather Find a Forever Home

Many times you scroll through Facebook and aren’t moved to tears by a photo and a story, but Merryweather needs your help. She is a pup in a cage in St. Landry Animal Rescue without a ton of prospects and her life to date has been quite horrible. Please note that there are some aspects of her story that are quite disturbing but need to be included to truly illustrate her story and why we are sharing it. Help rescue this incredible dog from Louisiana and transport it to Los Angeles so that she can find a forever home.

Pawsitive Change Program changing the lives of dogs and juvenile inmates gets a celebrity visitor: Kristen Bell

The Pawsitive Change Program is an incredible and transformative program that is an intensive rehabilitation program which matches death row dogs from shelters throughout California and pairs them with inmates inside California State Prisons including maximum security prisons. The Pawsitive Change Program female juvenille inmates got a celebrity visitor last week: Kristen Bell. The program is guided by 4 of their experienced trainers over 14 weeks, during which the inmates work towards vocational accreditation and the dogs towards their Canine Good Citizen Certification.

Surfing Dog Ricochet changes lives by helping Veterans and children with special needs including Autism

Pups have extraordinary abilities that sometimes exceed even what humans can do. Did you know that many children with autism and other special needs need a therapy dog to help them cope and conquer hurdles within their everyday lives? Therapy dogs have been proven to increase the social skills of children with autism that allows them to interact more fully with those around them. Not every family with a child that has special needs has the ability to get one of these therapy dogs and this is where Ricochet steps in. She’s a gorgeous 10 year old golden retriever who has some superpowers. Ricochet is a surfing champion, movie star, therapy dog and has a keen ability to help people cope with their surroundings so that they can thrive. Woof Republic got to interview Ricochet and her handler Judy about all of their incredible and awe inspiring work.

The Queen herself loves corgis. Queen’s Best Stumpy Dog Rescue has put a lot of emphasis on rehabilitating corgis and other “lowriders” medically and managing their behaviors through training.  This rehabilitation is so important while getting to know their needs and quirks in order to find them the right home. Another differentiator of QBSDR is the fact that their dogs are in foster homes.

Finley’s Barkery Empowers The Community

Finely’s Barkery is a Minneapolis based dog treat company founded in 2016 by Angie Gamades and Kyle Gallus. Angie and Kyle, both special education teachers, realized that there was a systematic issue in their community: those with intellectual disabilities struggle to find stable employment. Angie explained, “When I taught at the high school level, I developed a work skills class where my students made dog treats to sell to staff in the district. They needed to one day hold a job to be a contributing part of the community. A couple former students reached out to me years after they graduated and had attended my class and said that they would like to bake again.”
