These Bus-Riding Dogs Have Become Internet Sensations

Mo and Lee Thompson of Skagway, Alaska, have become social media sensations with the help of their furry friends. If you are on TikTok, you have likely come across a video of the couple who own the dog play group Mo Mountain Mutts, which specializes in off-leash pack walks and training. The Thompsons are famous for transporting their adorable clients in a passenger bus, where they are secured with clips and harnesses.

While speaking to KTOO Public Media in January 2023, Mo shared she established the business while she was a server. She explained that “some teachers” she befriended knew she was a massive dog lover and inquired if she would walk their pups. She ended up taking on so many clients she “needed a second pack walk.” Her husband decided to become part of Mo Mountain Mutts full-time in 2021.

During a January 2023 interview with the Washington Post, Mo noted that each of the 40 or so members of her pack has been assigned their own seat on the bus. The mother of one asserted that “specific areas of the bus are better suited to the dogs.” For instance, she noted that playful pups are usually grouped together. She clarified that all her clients are well-trained and remain in their seats throughout the trips.

The dog enthusiast also shared that she puts quite a bit of thought into where she will take the pack for off-leash walks and activities.

“If it’s hot, we need to find a water source. If it’s icy, we’re not going to do an incline. If I have a puppy, we need to be on flat ground. If I have a large group, we can’t go places where there’s tight corners and blind spots,” shared the trainer.

Mo also noted she did not intend to make her business famous on social media.

“I originally started posting on social media for my clients,” explained the 31-year-old. “Somewhere along the line, the puppy bus just took off, and now the internet is in love.”
