Levy adopted the dachshund-corgi mix in 2012. While speaking to the Huffington Post in November 2019, the Emmy-Award-winning writer spoke about his canine companion.

“Would we call him a life partner? I don’t know. Best friend, confidant,” stated the 39-year-old.

Since adopting Redmond 10 years ago, the “Happiest Season” star has been a vocal animal rescue advocate. In an impassioned Instagram post uploaded on Clear the Shelters Day in 2019, Levy discussed Redmond’s adoption and urged his fans to also give a dog in need a second chance at life.

“I adopted Redmond when he was four years old. He had been mistreated and abandoned at an adoption fair in Los Angeles. Finding him was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. If you are looking for a pet, first make sure you’ve thought it through and that you have the means to care for them properly, THEN please please please consider adopting. There are so many animals just waiting for a better life. #cleartheshelters,” wrote Levy in the caption of the post.

Our hearts go out to Levy! Rest in peace Redmond, you very good boy.
