Olivia Munn Is The Ultimate Dog Mom And Rescue Advocate
Olivia Munn may be best known for being a talented actress, but there’s another facet of her life that we think also deserves recognition. She is a devoted dog mom to two precious pooches, a Cavalier King Charles, Sir Chancelot, better known as Chance, and Frankie, a terrier mix.
The Newsroom star first adopted Chance in November 2014 when she was backstage at a charity event hosted by the Fox Network called Cause for Paws. In a 2015 interview with Good Housekeeping, she revealed that her first interaction with the pup was very much a love at first sight situation.
"I wasn't looking for a dog at all and then I saw this little guy and was like, 'I have to have him,’” recalled the former Attack of the Show! co-host.
Olivia noted in a 2017 essay she penned for People magazine, that Chance’s adoption was a quick process,
“After spending all of 10 minutes together, I made a call to make sure I had the full support to bring him home and then adopted him right there on the spot!”
Soon after, the actress decided that she needed to give her furry friend a companion and adopted Frankie from Love Leo Rescue, based in Santa Monica.
Olivia stated that her boys have vastly different personalities. Chance, who she has playfully described as the “Pope Francis of dogs,” has a sweet disposition that has allowed him to become a therapy dog. Frankie, while a delight, is on the rambunctious side and has a tendency to “bark at birds.”
The actress told the Hollywood Reporter in 2019 that she loves to spoil her pups, stating that “they get stockings at Christmas and they got toys and a special cookie on Valentine’s Day.”
Even when it’s not a holiday, Olivia makes sure that Chance and Frankie get special treatment. The meals and treats are often homemade. In addition, the 40-year-old confided that she mixes Chance’s water “with alkaline and homeopathic drops” to alleviate digestive issues that are caused by his enlarged esophagus.
Throughout the years, the actress has been an advocate for dog rescue and is an ambassador for the Shelter Pet Project, where she has filmed numerous PSAs to encourage others to adopt rescue animals.
“Right now, there are millions waiting to be adopted. Whatever kind of dog you want, whether it’s a super fancy pure breed, a street dog, a hypoallergenic dog, there is a shelter that has those dogs. Or cats,” said Olivia. “ There are so many just waiting for a loving home right now. And when they are adopted, they know that they have been rescued and they have so much gratitude in their hearts.”
It appears Olivia is just as grateful for her rescues as they are towards her. Recently, she spoke to Spectrum 1 News and explained that adopting dogs has done wonders for her mental health.
“Before I dealt with more depression and anxiety and OCD tendencies. Having this little animal that I had to take care of, be responsible for, and think about — any weird worries I had I was able to turn it into positive energy,” noted the dog owner.
