New Year's Resolutions You Can Make With Your Dog

2021 has officially come to an end! This means it’s time to make some New Year’s Resolutions. Now, in general, attempting to better yourself is not super fun. Sure, the outcome is usually worth the effort. When you are in the trenches, however, it can be challenging.

That being said, I am a firm believer that dogs make everything better. So with this mindset, I believe that making the same New Year’s resolutions for you and your dog will make the experience more enjoyable.

Here are a few of our suggestions.

Get More Walks In

I would not call myself a big fan of exercise. That being said, I know it’s good for me. More importantly, it’s good for my furry friend. According to Better Health, even going on a 30-minute stroll a day “can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance.”

While walking can be a bit dull, there are ways to make going on a stroll more exciting. I, personally, am a fan of audiobooks, especially those that are dog-oriented. My suggestions are "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein, "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron, and "Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog" by John Grogan.

Just a disclaimer: if you do choose to listen to these books while on a walk, you are going to need to be okay with crying in public.

Get A New Hobby

Every year, I try to find a new hobby. Unfortunately, I get bored very easily. In 2021, one hobby did stick. I began finger-crocheting my dog blankets because she loves them.

Practice Self-Care

When you are busy, it's easy to neglect yourself. This upcoming year, start treating yourself like you would your dog. Go on walks, make sure that you are practicing good hygiene, and eat healthily. Also, don't forget to have fun and treat yourself from time to time!

Go To The Doctor

One of the most difficult things about being an adult is remembering to go to the doctor. That being said, if you have the means, consider getting at least one check-up in 2022.

The same goes for your pooch! If you have a senior dog, you should be scheduling veterinary appointments at least twice a year.
