The Most Popular Dog Breeds In Each State

While the United States is a diverse country, it’s safe to say that a majority of American citizens are fans of dogs. However, it appears some breeds are more popular than others. Here are the top dogs, if you will, of each American state.

Alabama

The citizens of Alabama have a preference for Labradors. According to the American Kennel Club, these furry friends are known for their friendly dispositions and athleticism. The short-haired dogs weigh approximately 50 to 80 pounds and come in black, chocolate, and yellow. 

Alaska

Like Alabama, those who live in Alaska are major fans of Labradors. 

Arizona

Labradors have also won over the citizens of Arizona. German Shepherds come in as a close second. The AKC reported that German Shepherds are excellent companions because of their intelligence and loyalty. The pups, usually weighing between 65 to 90 pounds, have a life expectancy of seven to 10 years.

California

California natives are obsessed with French Bulldogs. And who can blame them? According to the AKC, these chic companions are loving toward their owners. They also enjoy playing and behaving like adorable watchdogs. 

Colorado

Those who live in Colorado have an appreciation for Rhodesian Ridgebacks. These regal dogs are often the focus of Renaissance paintings, per the AKC. The protective pups are ideal companions for athletes.
