Christopher Meloni Thinks His Dog Looks Like a Member of a Hair Metal Band

“Law & Order: SVU” star Christopher Meloni absolutely adores his rescue dog, Scotty, who joined his family in 2011.

While speaking to People magazine in August 2024, Meloni, who shares two human children, Sophia and Dante, with his wife, Doris Sherman William, said that his furry friend has an air of mystery and can act somewhat apathetic.

“He can kind of take you or leave you, but then he'll come up and show you how much he needs you, but on his time and in his way. [He's] really appreciative when you take him on the walk, obviously, or when you're going to feed him; that's when you're best friends,” said Meloni during the People magazine interview.

He also shared that he believes Scotty looks like "a bassist from a 70s hair metal band.”

"I swear he wears black eyeliner. I've never caught him putting on makeup, but if I sent you a picture, you'd go, oh my, he's wearing makeup,” quipped the actor.

Meloni has been a long-time advocate for rescue animals. During a 2019 interview with Pet Age, Meloni shared that he believes adopting a furry friend is quite beneficial.

“You’re not just getting a pet, you’re saving a life. You may find, in the end, that the life you’re saving is your own or one of your family members. It’s a great way to connect with another life and do good by it,” said Meloni.

Meloni also mentioned his appreciation for Scotty in the 2019 interview.

“Scottie [sic] was also a shelter dog, but he was shipped up from the South. I don’t know what he went through, but he was a traumatized guy,” said Meloni. “I look at him and can tell he’s suffering from PTSD. But he’s been great. He’s such a character. Scottie [sic] is the zen master. He’s such a chill dog. He’ll kind of slink up to you and hang out with you. He’s such a calm guy, that you’re like, ‘All riiiiiight,’ and you get into it with him and then give him the ol’ belly rub.”
