What You Need To Know About Antoni Porowski's Rescue Dog
If you have watched the new season of the hit Netflix series “Queer Eye,” you may have noticed that the Fab Five have a new furry friend. In season 6, episode 1, the show’s resident food expert, Antoni Porowski, introduced the audience to his sweet rescue dog, Neon.
“If you are like me you left 2020 with one more dog than you entered it with. She’s our little Texas shelter pup,” said the reality television personality.
On January 6, Porowski took to Instagram to share how Neon — who was rescued from Austin Pets Alive! — felt about appearing on “Queer Eye.” The post featured a picture of the pit bull-beagle mix sleeping on a bed.
“this past week has been a lot for @neonthemutt and her newfound fame on #neonsbiggayhouse I mean @queereye so I am documenting her taking a breather with a tennis ball in her mouth as she likes to do,” read the caption of the post.
While speaking to The Dodo in 2021, Porowski shared that he initially planned on fostering Neon. He also revealed that he had considered fostering other dogs available at Austin Pets Alive. However, he noticed that the precious pup was emaciated.
“Neon actually wasn’t our first pick but she was really thin, her ribs were showing. She was relying on me,” explained the Netflix star.
The cook also explained that he decided to foster Neon because he “had a lot of free time on [his] hands” after the production of “Queer Eye” was paused due to the pandemic. He then revealed that his canine companion was his first pet.
“I have never been responsible for the livelihood of an animal,” stated Porowski.
During the interview, he also listed why he adored his furry friend, noting, that "she’s very bizarre and quirky" and "has a really cute, bright smile," which "exudes kindness."
"She’s definitely brought a lot of joy in my life, always ready to go to the next place, always down for an adventure. I know that I was able to give her a better life," said the 37-year-old.
He then revealed how he ended up adopting his foster dog.
"She was doing well and she was gaining weight when I got an email saying that there were people ready to meet Neon, my heart sank. I was definitely using the pandemic as an excuse that I wasn’t comfortable seeing other people which was kind of true and here she is," shared the "Antoni: Let's Do Dinner" author.
