10 Best Dog Breeds for Allergy Sufferers

Ever since I was a child, I have been obsessed with dogs. What I lacked in friends, I made up for in a 500-page Dog Encyclopedia that I would lug around at recess. However, this was an issue as I had severe allergies, specifically to pet dander. For this reason, my parents did not allow me to have a dog until I was 10 years old when a family member needed to rehome their toy poodle. After that sweet pup passed away unexpectedly six years later, my father brought home two poodle mixes, who also proved to be allergy friendly. My current dog, whose original owner also rehomed her, is a Maltese, poodle, and chihuahua mix, and she’s never caused me to sneeze once.

In short, while I love every dog breed, I know it’s best for me to have a dog that will not cause my allergies to flare up. Here are some breeds that are wonderful for allergy sufferers according to the American Kennel Club that I will definitely consider adopting in the future.

Also, it’s important to note that here at Woof Republic, we prioritize adopting, not shopping. While it may be a longer process, there are pure-breed dogs available for adoption. Trust me, I spend a lot of my time looking at pictures of poodles who need homes and fantasizing about our lives together.
